When Doing It Yourself Stops Working (And what it costs to get some help!)
“I’ll just figure it out,” I told my husband last week as he left for work with our son and I stared down a clogged kitchen sink. “I’m not calling a plumber, this can’t be that hard.”
Dear reader: it was that hard.
Five hours later, soaked in tears and dirty water, I finally called a plumber. Christian, the plumber, told me it was a 23-foot partial blockage that had likely been building up for years. I had canceled my morning sessions, taken apart half my kitchen, and even made a chaotic run to Lowe’s for a new drain snake (and Red Bull), determined to handle this myself.
All that effort… and still, I had to call in a professional. Forking over $400 for a problem I never could’ve fixed on my own.
Maybe you’ve been there, pushing through something on your own, convinced if you just try harder, it’ll finally work. But it doesn’t.
Giving it 100% and still not seeing results is such a painful, frustrating feeling!
So, why do I tell you this?
Because I’m not someone who throws time or money at a problem when I don’t have to. I’m stubborn. I work hard. And I believe in doing things yourself, until it stops working.
This is true for me personally, and it’s true in my professional work. I never want anyone to waste their energy, time, or resources on something they can fix themselves. But I also believe in knowing when enough is enough and it’s time to get help.
I can’t fix my sink – I call a plumber.
I can’t heal my knee – I visit a physical therapist.
I can’t ignore my trauma – I see a mental health counselor.
Maybe you’re here because you’ve tried buckling down, pushing through, and doing more… but you’re still stuck. You’re spinning your wheels, and you’re over it.
If that’s you, I want you to know, you’re not broken. You don’t need more willpower. You need a new system, you need someone (like I needed someone to get me off my dirty, flooded kitchen floor) to fully understand what’s going on.
And that’s where I come in!
What I Do
I use behavioral science to help people understand and change the patterns that keep them stuck. Together, we:
Talk through your current life and where you're hitting resistance
Identify the patterns and barriers that block progress
Learn a new way to understand your behavior, rooted in science and guided by your values
Track actions and consequences to reveal why behaviors continue
Rebuild new patterns that are more effective, sustainable, and aligned with who you are
Develop skills and strategies you can use long after we stop working together
My approach is practical, collaborative, and focused on long-term success. The goal? For you to learn what you need, build what matters, and move forward with confidence.
What It Costs
Initial Intake (90 minutes): $250
In this session, we dive deep. I listen carefully, ask intentional questions, and start shaping a behavior change plan rooted in your core values.Follow-Up Sessions (60 minutes): $125
These sessions include feedback on your current strategies, updates to your goals, and guidance for continued growth. We’re not just solving today’s problems—we’re building systems that support your future success.
Why It’s Priced This Way
This work is built on years of study, over 2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork, and a passion for making behavioral science truly usable. I took a different path than most of my peers, collaborating with other professionals, integrating diverse perspectives, and paving a new way to use behavioral science in real life, not just clinical settings.
Right now, I’m the only BCBA in Columbus offering this kind of support, and one of very few in the world. My time is limited, but this work matters. I’m here for the people who are ready to stop doing it all themselves and want a clear path forward.
