Habit Menu – Simplifying Your Behavior-Building Routine
"This time, it’s really going to stick. I can feel it."
How often do you say that to yourself? You make a plan, clean out your pantry, tell your friends exactly how you're changing your life… and then, two weeks in, you’re exhausted. The routine isn’t sustainable, and you feel like you’re missing out on things that bring you joy.
The problem? Another rigid, elaborate plan isn’t the answer.
What you actually need is:
✔ Simplicity – No overcomplicated rules or protocols.
✔ Flexibility – The ability to adjust based on your day.
✔ Small steps – Changes that seamlessly fit your life.
✔ Alignment with your values – Instead of shaping your habits around what others expect, build them around what truly matters to you.
Start with Your Values
Values are the beliefs and principles that guide our decisions and behaviors. If you’re unsure about yours, I’ve put together a Values List to help, grab it here !
Once you identify your core values, ask yourself: How do these show up in my daily actions?
Creating a Habit Menu = Options, Flexibility & Fun
A Habit Menu is exactly what it sounds like—a list of behaviors that align with your values, giving you daily options to choose from.
How It Works:
1. Write down your core values.
2. Brainstorm small actions that align with them.
3. Keep your Habit Menu somewhere visible.
4. Each day, ask yourself: “How will I live in alignment with my values today?”
5. At the end of the day, check off the actions you completed.
6. Repeat until you’ve completed the menu, then refresh it!
Why This Works:
✅ Simple: A ready-made list reduces decision fatigue and supports executive functioning.
✅ Fun: Ordering off a menu makes habit-building feel playful instead of rigid.
✅ Personalized: Your menu reflects your values, not someone else’s.
✅ Flexible: Include quick 30-second actions and longer ones (up to an hour) so you always have options.
